Gamifying Multifamily Recycling and Composting: Lessons From the Pacific Northwest

In 2025, the City of Kirkland in Washington launched a novel project hoping to galvanize recycling and composting in its multifamily housing complexes. At the time, people living in those communities diverted 26.5% of their disposables, compared to 63.6% in single-family neighborhoods.
