Petrobras platform hits peak pre-salt production in Brazil

The Alexandre de Gusmão floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel, operating in the Mero Field in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, has reached its maximum production capacity of 180,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd). The Mero Field, located 180 kilometers off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, is Brazil’s third-largest producer, after Búzios and Tupi, which are also located in the Santos Basin. The field is considered ultra-deepwater, with production facilities operating at depths of up to 2,100 meters. In a statement released by Petrobras, Renata Baruzzi, the company’s Director of Engineering, Technology, and Innovation, emphasized that “each unit that reaches the maximum production level specified in the project not only contributes to the company’s results but also confirms that major technical challenges have been overcome and that the strategies adopted were the right ones.” In addition to the Alexandre de Gusmão, the FPSOs Pioneiro de Libra, Guanabara, Sepetiba, and Marechal Duque de Caxias are operating in the Mero Field.
