VERDY and PARCO Launch Their Joint Project "Verdy's Postal Service"

"Verdy's Postal Service," a joint project between graphic artist VERDY and PARCO, officially opened at Shinsaibashi PARCO on Friday, September 18.The project centers on the letter as a form of communication. Reflecting on how it came about, VERDY says, "I've been really close with the PARCO team ever since Shinsaibashi PARCO opened, and it started from us wanting to do something more interesting together." He had long thought it would be fun to open a shop dealing in mailboxes, letters and stationery, and with the PARCO team's support, he says, "that's finally become a reality."Today, smartphones and social media let anyone send messages with ease. VERDY himself receives a flood of messages every day across LINE, DMs, email and more. Yet precisely because digital communication has become the norm, he has found himself newly drawn to "the warmth of something handwritten."VERDY regularly exchanges letters in his own life, writing to family members on their birthdays and receiving letters from friends and fellow artists. "It struck me again how great it is to send a handwritten letter, so I wanted to turn that into something tangible," he explains of the thinking behind the project.The shop at Shinsaibashi PARCO carries postcards and greeting cards featuring VERDY's characters VICK and VISTY, along with "V's COLLECTION," an original postcard series with guest collaborators TAPPEI, DAN and Haruto Tsuda. Marker pens, ballpoint pens and other letter-writing essentials round out the selection. An original mailbox designed by VERDY is also installed in-store, alongside a dedicated space where visitors can write and post letters on the spot. Going beyond product sales, the space aims to let visitors experience the full act of letter-based communication, from writing a letter to dropping it in the mailbox.On the apparel side, the shop offers VICK-designed T-shirts, kids' T-shirts, tote bags and more. There is also a limited-quantity collaboration with doublet, which designed the shop staff's uniforms. doublet designer Masayuki Ino has created an airmail-inspired T-shirt drawn from the Verdy's Postal Service concept. Its standout feature: when folded into a set shape, it takes on the appearance of a single airmail letter.Even as digital communication accelerates, Verdy's Postal Service rediscovers the value of the warmth that only handwriting can convey, and of the act of sending a letter itself.
